Packing
We're almost ready for our trip to Korea and Japan. All of the clothing and travel essentials strewn throughout the house for the past few weeks have begun to find their home among the packing cubes and suitcases. Knowing that everything is in its place helps me feel prepared for the unknown.
No matter how many times I fly, the novelty is not lost on me. It makes me think of my parents generation, for whom this kind of trip was a one-way ticket; too busy or unable to afford to make the trip back for years, even decades. And before them, those that left home with very little, often without much of a safety net, in hopes of realizing the American dream. It gives me appreciation for the journey, just a little more patience for the discomforts of leaving home.
For us, tomorrow (weather permitting), this trip is a welcome respite as we close out 2024. We leave Ruth with a heavy heart, but look forward to a few weeks of clearing our heads in anticipation of the year to come.
